Thiago Motta: “We want to win for us and for our fans“

04 December 2021 - 17:00

The challenge against Sassuolo is near, and the Eagles are ready to face it tomorrow at 15:00 at the 'Picco'. On the eve of the match, as usual, coach Thiago Motta spoke in a press conference:

"We always have the opportunity to improve and to play a good game, trying to bring home a different result from the last few days, that's the beauty of football: having every week a new opportunity to prove our worth.

We need to improve on the counter-attacks because we've shown in the past that we can do that well. It's never easy at San Siro, Inter is the fittest team in the league and it's not surprising that we came home without any points, even though, as I've already said, there were a few episodes that could have turned the game around and given us a few more chances to get it on our side.

If we want to get a positive result we have to continue defending together, in eleven, but on the recovery of the ball, we have to give more to make it difficult for the opponent. Sassuolo is a good team with good players, very technical and aware of what they can give on the pitch, and they are currently showing their worth; we must try to put them in difficulty, and with a good performance we'll be able to bring home a different result than the last few games.

We approach every game with the aim of doing our best and bringing home points. It's true that there have been changes to the formation, but they've always been well thought out on the basis of the opponent, trying to understand what the best conditions were to put the other team in difficulty, to start again and make the most of any space given.

This year we've set a record for penalties against us, some clear, some more doubtful, and this has a big impact on the average number of goals conceded, while we haven't had a single one in our favor yet, despite there was no lack of opportunities. We have always tried to maintain a team balance, while defending higher or lower depending on the opponent, and I am satisfied with the defensive work done by the boys.

Nguiamba is training well, and when I think he will be ready you will see him on the field; for the moment he will continue to train with the group to reach the best possible condition.

As for Kiwior, I'm satisfied with his performance and I'm not surprised because he’s training very well. He is a player with interesting characteristics, and his response on the field in his first game in the white shirt was excellent, he has a good foot and showed great character in a game that was not easy.

Manaj has been training very well for weeks now, I'm not surprised by the game he played on Wednesday, because when you train this well for this long it means you're ready, available, and he played a very good game both individually and as a team. Everything he did he did in the right way, with the right spirit, we'll see if he'll be on the pitch tomorrow, but I expect from him what he did at San Siro and even more because he's a guy with huge qualities who still has a lot to prove.

My way of working pushes me to analyze one game at a time, and tomorrow as always you'll see who I think is in the best condition to play against Sassuolo.

The fans here in Spezia are to be praised, they have always supported the team and pushed it to give more. I feel them close every day, and in the situation, we're in we need them, their presence, and their energy. The boys and I always try to do our best and tomorrow is another opportunity we have to bring home the three points, both for us and for our fans."
