A long press conference for Spezia Calcio's Chief Football Officer, Eduardo Macia, who analysed the first few months on the shores of the Golfo dei Poeti, also dictating the guidelines for the future: "Football is undergoing a major change and we need to understand it: with the introduction of the five substitutions, the number of starters has become sixteen and it is our job to allow our coach to always have the chance to make the most of the squad right up until the last minute of the match.
The team now has a clear identity, and for the past month and a half I think it's there for all to see, but we know that it's our responsibility to improve in terms of scoring, mental intensity and consistency, with our players who must always have an ambitious humility and not that arrogance that doesn't allow them to work to the maximum as anyone who has the chance to wear this jersey must do. When I talk about scoring goals, I'm not just talking about the forwards, but it's the whole team that has to work to ensure that the amount of play and chances are converted into goals, so we know we have to raise the bar in this respect.
The outgoing market? We will evaluate the situations of those who have found less space up to now, but in general one thing must be clear: the only development of our players comes from Serie A and results, there is no other way. We have to get results in order to grow, remain in the top division and only then think of selling, at the right time, players ready to make the leap to important clubs: this is what increases the prestige of the club and this is what allows us to stabilise and have a bright future ahead.
What about the incoming players? We want our own players, I honestly don't like loans. We want players who are honoured to wear our jersey, not who think they are doing us a favour by playing for us, and this must apply to everyone at the club because it is the mental approach that makes the difference. Growth comes from players who give everything, from the 1st minute to the 90th minute, putting in the spirit of belonging and for that I don't look at nationality, because we are a football club and not a national team, but rather I look at their identity, the desire they have to wear the white jersey and what they can give to the team from the first moment.
Coach Gotti? The ideal travelling companion to build our path. He is a stable person, never moody, and in difficult moments, in which he felt the trust of the owners and the club, he was able to transfer the same serenity to all of us at the same time. His work has an important value and it is showing on the pitch, also thanks to a balanced and measured relationship with each of his players.
There is a direct relationship with the owners, as there is with the people in the group, but Spezia is an autonomous reality, with its own programming, with its own clear path, where there are motivated people who can carry forward the project of an owner of substance like ours.
Nzola? He's really giving a lot to the team, he's a very generous guy who has been working very well since day one and we also appreciate the work of coach Gotti towards him. There's the will to renew, we're talking and everything will work out, but we also want the boy to stay focused on the field, so calm down.
Kiwior? He has had an incredible growth and is destined for an important step in his career, but it will have to happen at the right time, there is no hurry now and this also applies to the other players in the squad: every transition in football has its time and until then we must think about working to improve further, making sure that that 'transition' is definitive and not momentary. In general we have to help our players to improve what can be improved, not what is not in their capabilities, and for each of them we have to find the best solution.
The salvation fight? A new championship will start in January and we will go to Spain to prepare ourselves as best we can, as we will have to be ready from the first match in 2023.
