Even the market was deeply conditioned by economic problems; the roster was almost totally changed to reduce the salary cap, and most of the best players left the team. Direct consequence was the progressive and inexorable worsening of the situation in the league of the Aquilotti.
In February and March, the non-payment of old salaries and the accumulation of debts brought the company to the brink of bankruptcy, and the city decided to mobilize to try to save the Aquila company. It was quickly formed the company "Lo Spezia Siamo Noi srl", which collected economic contributions from fans, players, and sponsorship from different realities of the province.
In March, the newborn company acquired 70% of the company shares and became the majority shareholder, thus creating the first case in Italy of a football club managed by the fans themselves.
The remaining 20% of the shares remained of the property of Parma Andrea Ermelli, and 10% of Internazionale. On April 30th, 2008, Roberto Quber became chairman; he remained president until May 20th, 2008, when Attilio Garbini succeeded him.
On May 25th the defeat by Pisa condemned the team to relegation in Serie C1. In of June and July, after various negotiations, the popular association "Lo Spezia Siamo Noi", despite the mediation of Massimo Moratti, didn’t find any new investor able to take over the team and cover the huge debts, so the club went to liquidation.
