Memorable was the 2005-06 season: Spezia won the Serie C1 and returned to Serie B after 55 years. With Guidetti, Varricchio, Alessi, Grieco, Addona, Bianchi, Bruccini, Ciarcià, Fusco, Giuliano, Gorzegno, Guariniello, Locatelli, Maltagliati, Padoin, Paruta, Pelati, Pessotto, Ponzo, Rotoli, Rubini, and Saverino, Spezia reached the mathematical certainty of promotion on May 1th, 2006, in Padua, with over four thousand fans. At the end of the season, there was a gap of seven points between Spezia, leader with 63 points, and Genoa. Another great memory was the first victory in history against Genoa, and the conquest of the Super Cup League Serie C1 at the expense of Naples.
In the following season, at the debut in Serie B, Spezia was for the first part of the year outside the relegation zone. It realized even two great feats: the first victory at Marassi against Genoa (1-2) and the victory at home against Juventus (1-1). In the second half of the season, some defeats forced the Aquilotti to fight for salvation until the last day of the championship, in which the team avoided the direct relegation by obtaining another historic victory (2-3) at the Olympic Stadium in Turin against Juventus. “Padoin!!!, Padoin!!!, Padoin!!!, with one leg at the 90th!!!, with one leg at the 90th!!! " commented Fabio Caressa to the microphones of Sky: a historical result obtained by Spezia. The Turin team hadn't lost at home since April 2005 and, thanks to this result, Spezia kept the record of never having been defeated by Juventus in official matches.
But it wasn’t over; with the victory in Turin, Spezia got the play-out against Hellas Verona. In the first match at Picco stadium, after a first disadvantage, the team won 2-1 thanks to the goals of Saverino and Do Prado. The return match ended in a goalless draw, thus decreeing the salvation of Spezia and relegation to Serie C1 of Hellas Verona.
